Export private label

Private label manufacturing with Australian manufacturers, for brands overseas

Shiiv Imports runs private label projects with Australian manufacturers for brand owners and retailers outside Australia. Tell us the product, market and price point. We find a suitable manufacturer and manage specifications, samples, artwork, market labelling and export documents, then ship to your port. Shiiv is the sourcing partner, not the factory.

A process proven in Australian retail

We run private label programs for Australian and New Zealand retail: brief, sample, approve, deliver. For overseas brands the same process runs in the other direction, with an Australian manufacturer making your product and our team shipping it to you.

Categories we brief

  • Grocery and pantry, snacks, breakfast, dairy (including UHT), canola oil, nuts, and grain products such as flour.
  • Wine, where the destination is a sensible wine market. Beverage tariffs in Fiji are very high, so wine is not the lead private label brief for Fiji.
  • Vitamins and supplements.

Private label, white label and contract manufacturing

  • Private label: a manufacturer makes a product to your specification, under your brand.
  • White label: an existing product, relabelled with your brand.
  • Contract manufacturing: your formulation or recipe, made by the manufacturer under contract.

Origin statements on private label products

We use the forms set by Australia's Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL) Standard, product by product: for example "Product of Australia", "Made in Australia from at least X% Australian ingredients" or "Packed in Australia". A "Made in Australia" statement is used only where the product was substantially transformed in Australia, and the percentage is always the real figure. Your market's labelling law decides the final export label.

Recipe, artwork and your brand

We agree in writing who owns the brand, artwork and any custom formulation before work starts. Register your brand name in your market before launch; your trade mark adviser can confirm the route.

Questions importers ask

Can an overseas brand get products made in Australia under its own label?

Yes. We match your brief with Australian manufacturers and manage samples, artwork, labels and export documents through to shipment.

What is the difference between private label, white label and contract manufacturing?

Private label is a product made to your specification under your brand. White label is an existing product relabelled with your brand. Contract manufacturing is your own recipe or formulation made under contract.

Which origin statement can my private label product carry?

One of the Country of Origin Labelling Standard forms that fits the product, such as "Product of Australia", "Made in Australia from at least X% Australian ingredients" or "Packed in Australia". "Made in" forms need substantial transformation in Australia. We confirm the statement and the evidence before artwork is approved.

Who owns the recipe and artwork?

That is agreed in writing before the project starts. Brand and artwork usually sit with the brand owner; custom formulations depend on the contract.

What is the minimum order for private label?

Minimums depend on the manufacturer, product and pack, so we quote them with each brief.
