Export sourcing

A sourcing and export partner for Australian and New Zealand food

Shiiv Imports is a sourcing and export partner for overseas buyers of Australian and New Zealand food. We have traded since 2012 and already source for international clients across Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, the USA and Europe. Send the product, market and volume, and we come back with suppliers, samples and an FOB or CIF quote.

  • Already sourcing for clients across China, Thailand, Vietnam, India, the Pacific (Fiji, Vanuatu), Dubai, the USA and Europe.
  • Food grown, produced and made by Australian and New Zealand suppliers, sourced and shipped by one team.
  • Mixed containers, branded lines and own-brand programs for importers, retailers and foodservice.

Who we work with

Shiiv Imports is a founder-led sourcing and export partner for buyers who want Australian and New Zealand food without building their own supply chain. We have been trading since 2012. The founder has more than 20 years in FMCG sourcing. Products are supplied to 10,000+ stores. That same discipline on specifications, labels and records now runs in the other direction. We work with a network of Australian and New Zealand growers and manufacturers, manage quality and export documentation support, and ship by the container, including mixed loads. For brand owners and retailers, we run private label projects with Australian manufacturers from first brief to shipment.

Markets we serve

We source for international clients across Asia (China, Thailand, Vietnam and India), the Pacific (Fiji and Vanuatu), the Middle East (Dubai), the USA and Europe. Our desks put people close to both ends of the trade: supply in Sydney and Auckland, buyers through Singapore, Ahmedabad, India and Texas, USA.

Southeast Asia (Singapore desk)

Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Preferential rates under AANZFTA need a Certificate of Origin, which we arrange with the shipment. The upgraded AANZFTA entered into force on 21 April 2025 for Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Brunei, and since then for every other party except Indonesia and the Philippines, which still trade under the First Protocol until they ratify. Thailand and Vietnam are covered. DFAT: https://www.dfat.gov.au/news/aanzfta-upgrade-enters-force

India (Ahmedabad, India desk)

Nuts, wine, canola oil, barley, grocery and private label. AI-ECTA preferential rates are claimed with a Certificate of Origin from a recognised issuing body.

China

Wine, nuts, barley and supplements, through importers and compliant cross-border channels. Food for China must come from producers registered with China's customs authority (CIFER); we check each supplier's registration before quoting.

The Pacific (Fiji and Vanuatu, Sydney and Auckland desks)

Consolidated grocery, dairy and grain loads sized for island importers, wholesalers and resorts. Beverage tariffs in Fiji are very high, so wine and other beverages are not the lead categories for Fiji. See Pacific Islands supply: https://www.shiivimports.com.au/export/pacific-islands-supply

The Middle East (Dubai)

Dairy, nuts, grocery and pantry lines. A-UAECEPA preferential rates need a Certificate of Origin. Routes and discharge ports are planned per booking.

USA and Canada (Texas, USA desk)

Grocery, wine and specialty lines for importers and retailers. Tariff settings are checked per order. Contact Bhavin +1 630-336-7666.

Europe

Private label and specialty lines on brief.

Documents and compliance, in plain terms

Some Australian food exports are prescribed goods: wheat, barley, fresh fruit and vegetables, cow's-milk dairy, and anything described as organic. Nuts, sugar and other processed plant products become prescribed only where your market requires a phytosanitary certificate. Prescribed goods generally need an Australian export permit for each consignment, issued in the exporter's name by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) through its EXDOC and NEXDOC systems, which are accessed through TradeClear. Consignments of 10 kg or 10 litres or less, and organics going to New Zealand, are among the permit exemptions. Dairy exported to New Zealand is non-prescribed, so it does not need a DAFF export permit or establishment registration while that remains the case. DAFF: https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity-trade/export/controlled-goods/dairy/exporters Canola oil, honey, vitamins and supplements, and most packaged groceries are non-prescribed and only need what your market requires. We check each product in MICoR (https://micor.agriculture.gov.au), confirm the requirements with you in writing, and coordinate the documents with registered establishments and the shipping supplier. Goods over AUD 2,000 per consignment are also declared to the Australian Border Force before export. Wine shipments over 100 litres need Wine Australia export approval.

Who is the exporter of record depends on the deal: sometimes the supplier, sometimes Shiiv. We state it in every quote. Export permits and certificates are issued for each consignment in the exporter's name, while establishment registrations stay with the supplier's site.

Quality and origin

  • Shiiv's ISO 9001 quality management system, within its certified scope.
  • Products are sourced from suppliers holding food safety certification relevant to each product. Certificates are shared per product.
  • Origin is stated per product, in Country of Origin Labelling Standard forms such as "Product of Australia", "Made in Australia from at least X% Australian ingredients" or "Packed in Australia", with the actual percentage and the supplier's evidence on file.

Questions importers ask

Which countries does Shiiv Imports source for?

Shiiv Imports sources for international clients across Asia (China, Thailand, Vietnam and India), the Pacific (Fiji and Vanuatu), the Middle East (Dubai), the USA and Europe. Desks in Singapore, Ahmedabad, India and Texas, USA work with buyers, and Sydney and Auckland work with suppliers.

Does the upgraded AANZFTA cover Thailand and Vietnam?

The upgraded AANZFTA entered into force on 21 April 2025 for Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and Brunei, and since then for every other party except Indonesia and the Philippines, which still trade under the First Protocol until they ratify. Thailand and Vietnam are covered. Preferential rates still need a Certificate of Origin, which we arrange with the shipment. DFAT: https://www.dfat.gov.au/news/aanzfta-upgrade-enters-force

How do I source food products from Australia as an overseas buyer?

Send a brief with the product, specification, market, channel and volume. We shortlist Australian or New Zealand suppliers, send samples and an FOB or CIF quote, agree the specification, labels and documents with you, then inspect, load and ship.

Can Shiiv ship a mixed container of Australian groceries?

Yes. We consolidate lines from several Australian and New Zealand suppliers into one container under one contract, subject to each product's storage needs and your market's import rules.

Who is the exporter of record on a Shiiv shipment?

It depends on the deal. On some orders the supplier is the exporter of record; on others Shiiv is. We state it in the quote. Export permits and certificates are issued for each consignment in the exporter's name, so they belong to whichever party is named; establishment registrations stay with the supplier.

What payment terms apply for export orders?

Export orders are paid 100% upfront, before the container ships. The payment schedule is set out in each quote.

What documents come with an Australian food shipment?

Typically a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and any health or phytosanitary certificate your market requires. Prescribed goods such as wheat, barley, fresh produce and dairy also need an Australian export permit, and goods over AUD 2,000 per consignment need an export declaration. We check each product in MICoR (https://micor.agriculture.gov.au) and against your importer's requirements.

Are all your products made in Australia?

No blanket claim applies. Origin is stated per product in the Country of Origin Labelling Standard form that fits it, for example "Product of Australia" or "Packed in Australia", and the supplier's evidence is available on request.
